PSNI officers disciplined after 'sham wedding' arrests

A couple that was about to get married got arrested just before the ceremony was about to begin. They were accused of having a sham wedding based on an anonymous tip-off letter.  Even though the police found out within 40 minutes that it was a false accusation they held them for five hours at the police station. According to Karina Breslin-Carlin "the police had time to redeem this situation so the couple could have carried on with their day, but they did not’’. She is the McElwee's family solicitor. After an investigation three police officers that were on this care were disciplined.

How can this happen? How can a police officer arrest a couple that is about to get married? I really think that it is outrageous how they have treated them on their wedding day.  The worst thing is that it was a false accusation. If it would happen to me I would sue those police officers for ruining my wedding day. It is really ridiculous that they arrest them without having real evidence. I understand their reaction, because how can you talk about your wedding day if something awful like this happened on the day that supposed to be the happiest day of their life.
